Waterbucks are appropriately named because they tend to stay near water most of the time. They are often attacked by crocodiles that hide in the water. This antelope stands up to 4.5 ft. (1.4m) high at the shoulder and can weigh more than 450 lbs. (200kg). Their coarse gray or red-brown coat is covered with an oily substance that gives it a musty smell. They feed mainly on grass. The males have long, curved horns. During the mating season, males will fight with each other to defend their territories. They sometimes injure each other with their horns.
