Despite the fact that it is easily spotted by predators, the warthog’s strength and alertness help it to survive in open grassland. If they spot danger, they run to shelter in burrows or among rocks. If they cannot find shelter, they will fight fiercely. Warthogs feed mainly on grass. During the mating season, male warthogs will battle with their tusks head-on. Their thick, warty skin helps protect them from serious injury.
