About Slowworm

The Slowworm is a lizard with no legs. It looks very much like a snake but it is actually different in many ways. It has bony plates beneath its scales that make its body stiff and not as soft as a snake’s. The Slowworm can also shed its tail if it is attacked and needs to get away. It can also close its eyes, which snakes cannot do. Slowworms hunt spiders, slugs and insects. The females produce about 12 eggs at a time that hatch as they are being laid.
