This butterfly is found throughout Australia and New Zealand to as far west as India and Pakistan. In the early stages, the caterpillar is bluish gray or greenish in color and yellow with two reddish-black stripes behind the head. The butterfly is large and colored black and yellow. These butterflies are very active in the daylight and have a fast, jerky flight pattern. They visit many flowered plants and often feed on lantanas. They also rest on leaves with wings outspread.
