Musk Ox

About Musk Ox

The Musk Ox looks like a buffalo, but it is actually more closely related to the mountain goat and chamois. It lives in the Arctic Tundra where it is kept warm by a shaggy coat of long brown hair that during the winter can almost reach the ground. It has large hooves that help it to walk on top of the snow. Both male and female musk oxen have horns that curve downward. Musk Oxen live in herds of up to 100 animals and they are constantly on the move. If they are threatened, the adults will group their calves together and then the adults will form a ring around them.
