Mouth-Brooding Frog or Darwin’s Frog

About Mouth-Brooding Frog or Darwin’s Frog

The Mouth-Brooding Frog is also known as Darwin’s Frog. It has a very pointy nose that makes it easy to identify. The male of the species swallows the tadpoles when they start to hatch to protect them from danger. They stay in his vocal sac, feeding on yolk from their eggs. It takes about 3 weeks for the tadpoles to turn into small adult frogs. The male then spits them out into the water.
