About Medicinal Leech
Leeches live in wet places and often feed on blood. Their bodies are segmented and they have flat bodies with a sucker at each end, which they use to move and to cling to animals while they feed. While feeding a leech produces a substance that keeps blood from clotting. Leeches have been used over the centuries by doctors to “bleed” patients. This blood loss was believed to improve people’s health.
