About Large Checkered Skipper

The Large Checkered Skipper is found throughout the Palearctic region. This includes the British Isles, Scandanavian countries, Mediterranean, north Africa including the Sahara, the rest of Europe and Asia east to Japan. In the early stages, the caterpillar has a grayish white body with a black head. It feeds on various grasses. The butterfly is brown and has a light colored checkered pattern on the underside of the hindwings with a few yellow spots on the top of the forewings.
