Guanacos live in South America in the Andes Mountains and also in grassy plains. They live in small family groups of up to 12 animals. Guanacos look like vicunas, but their color is darker and they are somewhat larger. Once a year, the females will give birth to one calf. Guanacos are excellent swimmers and fast runners. Within a few hours of birth, newborn guanacos are able to run as fast as the adults.
