Giant Redeye

About Giant Redeye

The Giant Redeye is found throughout the Indo-Australian region. This includes New Zealand, Australia and southern Asia. It is primarily found from India to the Philippines and Indonesia. In the early stages, the caterpillar is red and covered with a waxy white film coating that comes off easily if touched. It mainly feeds on the leaves of banana plants. The Giant Redeye is one of the larger of the skippers. It is dark in color and has large pale yellow patches of color on the top of the forewings. It is easy to distinguish this skipper by its blood-red eyes. The females are slightly larger than the males.
