The gemsbok is built somewhat like a horse. It actually belongs to a group of mammals known as horse-antelope. Like all horse-antelope, the gemsbok has horns. Their horns are nearly straight with pointed tips. The gemsboks’ horns can grow to be more than 3 ft. (1m) long, and can be a deadly weapon. Gemsbok do very well in dry places. This is because they get most of their water from the food they eat. Gemsboks live in herds of up to 50 animals.
