Forest Musk Deer
About Forest Musk Deer
Male Forest Musk Deer have long, downward pointing tusks instead of antlers. And unlike other species of deer, they also have a pouch on their undersides that produces a strong-smelling substance called musk. They use this scent to mark their territory. People use musk to make perfume, and because it is hard to collect, it is considered valuable. There are five species of musk deer and all are threatened because of the demand for musk. The forest musk deer are found living in the mountains throughout Asia. They usually feed alone and eat grass, buds and moss.
