The Crested Water Dragon, or Basilisk, lives in the forests of South America. They find food in the trees as well as on the ground.
These lizards are brilliant bright green. It has a bony crest on top if its head and a crest down the center of its back and tail.
An unusual characteristic of the Basilisk, or Crested Water Dragon, is that it can run quickly on just its rear legs. It does not do this all the time, only in emergencies. It can do this on dry land and also short distances across water. Its back feet are equipped with fringes of scales on its toes to aid with this running.
